This etching, aquatint and drypoint with chine collé was done as a 'warm up' print prior to the artist tackling the much larger plate for his famous portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr (now sold out). This print, while not a portrait of King himself, was inspired by previous drawings Wilson did as studies for his celebrated bronze sculpture of King that stands in the Capitol in Washington, DC.
The plate was printed in an edition of 50 on Rives BFK paper. The image measures 20 x 16 inches and the sheet, 29 x 22.25 inches.
