Center Street Studio is pleased to announce the publication of a new aquatint with New York based artist William Steiger. Master Printer James Stroud and Steiger discussed making a print back in 2006 when they exhibited their paintings together at Gallery IHN in Seoul, South Korea. Fifteen years later they finally made it happen.

In this new print, Steiger returns to a favored subject of his, the Parachute Jump at Coney Island, NY. The structure that was initially built as a ride to attract thrill-seekers, remains part of the cityscape: a beloved reminder of a bygone era. The artist has chosen a dramatic viewpoint, gazing up at the stark silhouette against a horizonless sky. It is monochromatic in the way that memory often is, reminiscent of another time, sharp in detail yet not beholden to context.

William Steiger received a BA in Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an MFA in painting from Yale University. He is the recipient of numerous grants, fellowships and awards and his work is included in countless private, public and corporate collections. Steiger has more than 35 solo exhibitions worldwide including New York, Seoul and Tokyo. Hudson Hills press published a monograph of his work, featuring more than 200 images and essays by 23 contributing writers. Steiger currently lives and works in New York City.

The image measures 20.5 x 17.75 inches and is printed on a Niyodo Kozo chine collé hosted by a sheet of Hahnemühle Copperplate measuring 26 x 22 inches. It was printed in an edition of 25.
