B.J.O. NORDFELDT (Swedish/American 1878 – 1955)

(WINDMILL AND WORKERS). c.1900. Color pastel on colored pape, unsigned. 22 ¼ x 15”. Sheet: 24 ½ x 18 ¼”.  In 1900 Nordfeldt studied in  

Paris and then headed to England to study with F. Morley Fletcher. The subject is presumably Breton.  Meech and Gabriel, in “Japonisme Comes to

America”, 1990, comment on the influence of Breton as well as Henri Riviérè on the young Nordfeldt.  Provenance: Member of Nordfeldt Family, 

Robert Adams Fine Art, James Bergquist, Christie’s November 30, 1988,  lot 291, Vic Zink, Thomas French Fine Art.  Sheet backed with Japan.

 Repairs to upper margin extending slightly into image. Ink stamp with Christie’s information, lower right margin.
