Color aquatint on wove paper.
Edition unknown, but certainly small, like all the artist’s work.
A small paper tab (which we add), handwritten in the artist’s cursive, titles this work and prices it at $25. A similar watercolor portrait of a Berber (North-African) nomadic tribeswoman exists and is in our possession at the current time. Potter reveals his sitter’s cultural background as being (Arabic) Bedouin. Women from this nomadic tribe can be recognized by the distinctive tattoos that often adorn their faces.
Signed and numbered in pencil.
Provenance: the estate of the artist, thence by descent to his great-grandson, New Jersey.
Plate size: 13 7/8 x 6 1/2 inches.
