Banquise (original French title)
Engraving on laid Monval verdâtre paper.
Reference: Tonneau-Ryckelynck & Plumart 155.
Erroneously presumed to be dated circa 1927-28 in the catalog raisonné.
The printmaker’s personal printer’s proof. Aside from the edition of 35. There were apparently two states of this print, each printed in a single impression, before the final state.
This plate was a commission of M. Promard, who purchased 15 or the 35 prints, according to Hecht’s own notes in the margins of this impression.
Profusely annotated with edition details by the artist in pencil.
Plate size: 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches. The sheet is obviously to be shown in full, with all the annotation, and is much larger, as our image shows.
