William Kent, Amer., (1919-2012), EAT ME! #1, Slate Print, 1966, 40 X 40, signed, and dated in black ballpoint pen, printed in black on a blue cotton fabric with paisley patterned circle trimmed in yellow, the fabric measuring 43-1/2 x 50. Kent's motto here can be read as a Pescetarian plea to eat healthy or as a sexually charged provocation. Kent thrived on the far reaching ambiguity of word play, as had Duchamp before, and the familiar names of Pop with whom Kent exhibited early in his career. Most of Kent's prints are stored rolled, with resultant minor wrinkles which can be ironed out, Photography of these large prints is outside in natural light, often with raking light which amplifies each little wrinkle. They may be hung freely from rods or glazed and framed as individual collectors prefer.
