mezzotint

illustrated in "Mezzotint: Art of Darkness" and Carol Wax's "The Mezzotint: History and Technique."
"Delta" was exhibited at the New Orleans Museum of Art in the 1996 collection of classical and contemporary mezzotints. It was featured in a full page illustration of the exhibition catalog, "Mezzotint - Art of Darkness". "Delta" is a printmaker's print. A large percentage of this edition was purchased by other artists for their private collections. The stark contrast between the dark land and light river with the light sky and mostly dark cloud is breathtaking. German artist Udo Claassen created a dramatic landscape of this Icelandic scene in 1985 in an edition of 85. The New Orleans Museum of Art has an impression of this image in its permanent collection. Claassen was born in Itzehoe in the state of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. He discovered the medium of mezzotint by studying a book on the work of master engraver, Yozo Hamaguchi and he learned the technique through his own experimentation.
