 Clare Leighton, Eng.-Amer., (1898-1989), Digging Potatoes, Wood Engraving, 1934, for Leighton's celebrated book Four Hedges, published in 1935,  Ed. 7/.30, F.309 2-13/16" x 4-3/4", toned within mat opening, crease to upper right margin corner old hinges to corners, signed and titled in pencil, on thin cream wove simili japan paper, in a small edition.  One of the finest examples of Leighton's ability to create dynamic spacial depth within a vignetted compositional format, with it's beautiful modulations of light and masterful cutting of the folds in the farmer's pants, and the potato plants themselves.  $750
