Cadmus, Paul. FIDELMA CADMUS. Gelatin Silver photograph, not dated. Signed by Paul Cadmus in pencil, verso, and also annotated, verso, "Fidelma - circa 1926 - by P C" in an unknown hand. In an inexpensive photo frame, with annotations on its backing, and with a the label of Midtown Galleries, New York also on the frame backing. 4 1/2 x 6 1/8 inches. Silvering to the surface, but a rare and interesting image. Cadmus and his circle, including Fidelma, were interested in photography from the late 1930s into the 1940s, working together as "PaJaMa" (Paul Cadmus, Jared French and Margaret French), and many of their photos are in this same circa 4 x 6 inch format. A similar photo of Fidelma, from 1941, is included in "Collaboration, The Photographs of Paul Cadmus, Margaret French and Jared French," Twelvetrees Press, 1992. Although it is likely that the attributed date of 1926 came from Cadmus himself, as Midtown Galleries was his dealer, it seems more probable that our photo dates from the "PAJAMA" period. Fidelma Cadmus (1906-1991) was Paul Cadmus's sister. She was also a painter, and was married to Lincoln Kirstein
