Woodcut on cream wove japan with very small margins as issued, signed, dated, and dedicated to a Dr. Lewis or Levin.

There are two old brown paper tape vertical hinges to top side margins verso, the left hinge with an associated edge tear outside the image which has been backed with japan.
John Day was a painter of abstracted expressionist landscapes who studied with Josef Albers at Yale starting at age 18. His later paintings showed his teacher's influence This large early woodcut is richly inked and vibrant, with a dynamic cubist treatment of form. Not having encountered other prints by the artist, they are likely uncommon.
