Title: Mount Fuji at Satta Mountain Pass 薩埵峠の富士 Date: 1935

Oversized view of Mount Fuji from this famous viewpoint at Satta Pass, overlooking Suruga Bay. This work comes in two color versions; this one was done in purple, with pink glow just beneath the peak of the mountain. As Narazaki  notes: “Hiroshige also limned this view, a fine work form his series Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido [ca 1831-34]. Perhaps Hasui stood at the same place as Hiroshige when depicting this scene and had in mind to outdo the older master... The five small boats demonstrate the magnificence and the vastness of nature...” With the earliest Watanabe seal used during this period, right, used between 1924-1930, making this a first edition. The work also has the round Watanabe seal in the lower left corner.
