CHILDE HASSAM (1859 – 1935)

HAY BARN, 1920 (C.160)

Etching signed in pencil with cypher. Annotated in plate upper left “The Whitcomb Farm Stratham N.H. / July 17, 1917 and also in the plate at the lower right with Hassam's cypher and 1920. 10 3/8 x 14 ¼”.

Full sheet, with a Sweden Handmade watermark. Very good impression and good condition save for a bit of darkening around the mat opening.

A very scarce, small edition of ONE OF HASSAM’S LARGEST ETCHINGS. Larger than the Lion Gardiner House!! A Regionalist subject with an almost Modernist sense of design. Full sheet with deckle edge. A very pale ring of mat burn within the mat opening and a very sight tone of the sheet verso. The usual tack holes at sheet edge
