After considering several directions for her first fine art print edition with Stewart & Stewart, Judy Bowman painstakingly created a paper collage maquette specifically for the “Mom in Harlem” limited edition print. The maquette was digitally captured twice, once with longitudinally oriented lighting and once with latitudinally oriented lighting to minimize cast shadows from the collaged paper forms. The two captured files were merged and extensive digital manipulation was performed to meet the artist's desire for a stylized look of the overall image. After the artist approved the initial image file, it was used to create a proof file. The artist made considerable changes and adjustments to the proof file and two subsequent files resulting in a final image file. The final image file was then used to create the limited edition of 25 fine art prints on premium Somerset Museum Rag paper, (archival, 100% cotton, acid-free).
The final printed image was made possible through the artist's incorporation of digital technology in realizing her personal vision, without the limitations and compromises associated with traditional printmaking techniques
