Title: Two Grey Herons Flying in a Rain Shower Date: Ca. 1930
Two grey herons (Ardea cinerea) flap their giant wings as they fly through sheets of rain, their eyes alert. The background is a soft yellow that blends into grey. There are few Koson designs in this horizontal format, as he preferred the upright format. Koson works like this one that are signed “Shoson” were published by Watanabe Shozaburo. There is an earlier work that is signed “Koson” that includes a similar design of two egrets; but that one has a grey background. Rarely seen on the market.
Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition.
