Artist: Kawase Hasui 川瀬巴水 (1883-1957)
Title: Kankai Temple, Beppu (Beppu Kankaiji)(First Edition) Date: undated, ca. 1927
View of the famous mountain onsen area of Beppu, here shown with the precipitation clouds above blending with the natural steam clouds that rise from the ground. There are almost 3000 hot spring vents in Beppu city, giving it the largest volume of hot spring water in Japan. Hasui often used colloquial names in the naming of the places of his prints. This must be Kankaizenji, which indeed blends with the neighboring hot spring buildings that surround it on this mountainside. There are fine threads of rain shown falling in thin white and silver lines. The rumi seal at bottom right indicates a first edition.
Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition.
