Artist: Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) 川瀬 巴水
Title: Moon at  Magome 東京二十景 馬込の月
Series: Twenty Views of Tokyo
Date: 1930

"Moon at Magome," from "Twenty Views of Tokyo". In this masterful evening view, the yellow glow from a small window echoes the haunting presence of the full, yellow moon. This field and straw-thatched village hut have now been replaced by the urban sprawl of Tokyo’s Ota City district. Hasui owned a home in the Nishimagome area, which is also the home of the Ota City Folk Museum, which has held many Hasui exhibitions over the years. This is one of Hasui’s most famous designs, and was chosen for the cover of numerous Japanese catalogs that have been published on the artist. This may considered a first edition, with the Watanabe seal in use between 1930-1942.
