Etching, 1900, Zorn Gallery 153 (iii/IV), Hjert & Hjert 102 (iii/IV); edition unknown. 11 1/2 x 9 3/4 in. Signed and dated in the plate, lower left. Signed in pencil. This is a superb, luminous impression of this very rare print. The margins are probably full. The condition is very good apart from a mild trace of a mat line in the outer margins. There are three printing creases; one very subtle one affecting the blank area in the lower left and two in the lower margin with one just touching the image at bottom. For normal viewing distance these are not noticeable. Hjert & Hjert lists an edition of 15-18 impressions. The newer catalogue by the Zorn Gallery lists 5-15 copies of this, the third state, and 15-18 copies in the fourth state. There's a third state impression in the Wallace DeWolfe and Charles Deering Collections at the Art Institute of Chicago. Ex-collection: Max Biach (Lugt 5532) This Viennese collector was a prominent Zorn collector, among other artists, and Delteil mentions seven of his prints in his catalogue including this one.
