Color block print, signed and titled in pencil. Edition unknown likely c. 30. Image 10 1/8 x 11”, sheet 12 ¾ x 14 ½”. Beautiful impression . Very good condition on Gearhart’s thicker fibrous japan paper with full margins. The usual tack holes along the right sheet edge, used for printing. Some minor soft creases in the margins
Provenance: The Whitmore Collection - The Print Corner, Hingham, MA. Their Gearhart inventory number, lower left. They were Gearhart’s principal dealer in the East in the 30’s.
An impression exhibited in several exhibitions in 1930 & 1931 including the Wichita Art Association Annual Block Print Exhibition in January 1931. Exhibited in Gearhart’s first New York show at Grand Central Galleries in 1933. Illustrated and exhibited in “Frances H. Gearhart in Wichita 1922-1938”. Written and curated by this dealer in 2019
A very nice example of this classic coastal sunset. The subject is the Central California Coast. Gearhart made several trips to Central California. She was also a member of the Carmel Art Association exhibiting there as early as 1921.
