Note: At the 1965 opening of Warhol's first solo museum exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art, students and guests mobbed the artist and his entourage. A near riot ensued as lookers rushed to see Warhol, the art star. Warhol escaped the chaos by opening up the spiral staircase through a false ceiling, in to the night and on to superstardom. The event was covered nationally by media.
