Sea Fox on an Evening Tide

Reduction woodcut, edition 20, size 28 x 27 inches.

The fishing vessel Sea Fox was a familiar ship to Don Gorvett in his earlier years in Gloucester, MA. Records indicate origins of the Sea Fox are from Provincetown, MA. Years later, while Don was discovering Portsmouth, NH as a source for drawing subjects, he came across the dismantled Sea Fox for sale at the fisherman’s co-op on Pierce Island.

ABOUT / Don Gorvett is an artist and printmaker known for his large and powerful woodcuts of maritime and architectural subjects. He was born in Boston, MA, in 1949, and attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts through the Ford Junior Fellowship Grant. His life-long intention of living within the realms of harbors and the sea continues to provide the intellectual stimulus in which to approach maritime imagery.
