Two Friends

2020 Reduction woodcut, edition 16, image size 20.25 x 35 inches.

The Harbor Cove has been one of Gloucester's busiest and most sheltered ports. The busy Cove possessed an ice house, lumber and coals yards, and numerous fish processing plants. Over the hundred and fifty years of wear and tear and declining fish stocks, much of the Cove fell into disrepair. Abandoned fishing vessels were left by collapsing wharves.

In 1998 Don visited Gloucester and did several drawings in the Harbor Cove. The vessel, Two Friends, was a steel-hulled stern dragger. Now, twenty-two years later, the above woodcut was created from the drawings done at that time.
