Armand Guillaumin (France) 1841-1927. La Sieste. (La Charette). Repos sur les berges de la Seine à l'arbri d'une charette. Lithograph, 1889. Ref: Bibliothèque Nationale (IFF) 4; Kraemer/Clermont-Ferrand 26; Not in Johnson. Ed: Unknown. Scarce. This lithograph may have been intended as part of the never-completed third Vollard series. Signed and dated on the stone, l.r. Printed by Auguste Clot in six colors. It is possible that all known proofs of this print (only five found) were pulled posthumously by Clot (Kraemer, p. 44). 258 x 365 mm. (10 1/8 x 14 3/8 in.)
This work demonstrates the artist's quick mastery of the medium as directed by Vollard by purposely mis-registering the colors to give an impresssionist effect. The work is based on a gouache dated 1882 (Gray, p. 208, plate 83)
