Grooms, Mimi Gross (Americn, born 1940. NOVEMBER DECEMBER 62. Drawing,
Ink on Paper, 1963. Signed Mimi Gross" and dated 1963, lower right. The
drawing depicts a gathering or party that apparently occurred in
December 1962...at the top center of the drawing are the words "November
December 62" with "November" lightly crossed out. In excellent
condition.
Mimi Gross, with her then husband Red Grooms, was the
founder of the group Ruckus, which made large satirical consructions.
Her father was the aculptor Chaim Gross. She has had a distinguished
career as an artist known for painting and drawing, films, mail art,
book design, costume and set design, indoor and out of door
installations, diorama and sculpture. We have identified the man
sitting, left of center with crossed legs as Red Grooms, and believe
that the woman at right, drinking coffee, is the artist. Other, with
greater knowledge of the period and the friends of Red Grooms and Mimi
Gross may be able to identify others in the group, which, given the
date, may be a holiday party. Compositions with a large number of
people, often brightly colored paintings, are a feature of Gross's work
