Le Visage Encadré (French title)
Color drypoint on thick wove paper.
Reference: BN-IFF 52.
The Bibliothèque Nationale's inventory, referenced above, details each of Helleu's print to be recognizable, and our as such: "Étude de femme étendue à plat ventre par terre, de face, la tête appuyée sur ses deux mains, Mme Helleu".
As usual, no edition is stated or known. But while many of Helleu's prints were probably only printed in editions of 5 or 10 impresssions, this work was clearly one the artist thought of highly. While it still doesn't show up frequently, and certainly not with fresh unrestored condition, such as our impression, it was likely printed in slightly larger numbers, and both in color as well as monochromatically.
Signed in pencil.
A perfect impression, with fresh color and burr. The very faintest tone inside a prior mat window. Otherwise pristine, with wide margins.
Size: 11 x 15 3/4 inches.
