Nevelson, Louise. THE SILENT ONE (GIRL). Baro 23. Etching and drypoint, 1953-55

One of only a few proofs printed by Nevelson herself at Atelier 17, and thus not a part of the 1965 edition of 20 printed by Emiliano Sironi at Hollander Graphic Workshop

Titled "Girl" and signed in pencil. 21 3/4 x 17 5/8 inches.

The plate was executed at Atelier 17, and a few proofs were printed there by Nevelson. These proofs are very scarce.

In very good condition.

The variant titling is typical of titling she gave to the infomal proofs she printed at Atelier 17 and the that which she gave when the proofs were editioned later.

Provenance: Albert Argentieri, New Jersey, friend of the artist; thence by descent, private collection, New Jersey. During the 1950s and 1960s, Argentieri, a photographer and artist, lived near Louise Nevelson and her assistant, Ted Haseltine, who was aclose friend of Argentieri. He photographed Nevelson and her work, along with Haseltine, collected the wooden pieces from abandoned buildings and other locations which Nevelson used to create her sculptural assemblages.
